This contemporary physic garden is the inspired creation of Professor Elaine Perry, a neuroscientist at Newcastle University who directs research into plant medicines. It occupies a tranquil site above the Devil's Water at Dilston in the Tyne Valley.

Herbs and trees with properties for health and healing grow in abundant quantities, clearly labelled with their traditional medicinal uses and up-to-date scientific, clinical evidence. Popular courses in plant medicine and other complementary therapies take place throughout the summer season.

This is also a sensory garden of great natural beauty, full of intoxicating scents - a garden which is as pleasing to the eye and healing to the spirit, as it is stimulating to the mind.

FOR SALE IN 2008

Plants
Last year students at neighbouring Dilston College - a specialist Mencap college for students with learning difficulties/disabilities did some propagating for us and we look forward to continuing this co-operative venture in 2008.

Herbs for sale will include:-

Caraway, Chamomile, Chives, Comfrey, Fennel, Lemon Balm, Parsley, Peppermint, Soapwort, Thyme and Sage (purple and broad-leaved).

Herbal Preparations
These are hand-made for us by local, registered herbalist - Ross Menzies. All herbs used in these preparations are collected either from Dilston Physic Garden or the local countryside, or sourced from an organic/biodynamic supplier. Currently the range includes the following:-

Tinctures - valerian, echinacea, fennel, lemon balm, nettle and meadowsweet.

Creams etc - frankincense face cream, comfrey/calendular ointment, joint/muscle rub and midge/mosquito repellant.

Pure Plant Oils by Dilston Woods Botanicals
Hand-made in Northumberland by Nicolette Perry and unique to Dilston Physic Garden, a sumptuous range of oils for the face, eyes, hair and body. Infused with essential oils and vitamins, these products are made to rejuvenate, refresh and moisturise. All ingredients are 100% natural, using only pure plant oils.
